Understanding the experience of eating through the lens of your child

Eating is a very complex task. We use each of our 8 senses (sight, smell, sound, touch, taste, interoceptive, vestibular and proprioceptive senses) to understand the food in front of us. We also use all our organs and muscles to digest each mouthful.  We use our intellectual abilities to make sense of our environment as well as to understand what the food in front of us is: have I had it before? Did I enjoy it last time? Any difficulty in any one of these systems can make eating challenging.
