Applicants qualifying outside of the Republic of Ireland

All persons who received their professional qualification outside of the Republic of Ireland must have their qualifications validated by CORU - the Health and Social Care Professionals Regulator for Ireland. Please see the CORU website.

A copy of this validation letter must accompany your application form together with copies of your qualifications.

All applicants should be proposed and seconded by paid-up members of the INDI. If a new applicant is not known to INDI members letters of reference from two previous employers are required instead. The employment must have been in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics. In the case of newly qualified dietitians letters of reference should be from a College Lecturer and your Clinical Hospital Training co-ordinator.

Procedure for an ADA Member to become an INDI member as per Reciprocity Agreement

  • CORU must validate qualifications of dietitians who qualified outside the Republic of Ireland. This is essential to practice in Ireland and is a separate issue from INDI membership. See above for more on validation.
  • Once this process had taken place you will need to send a copy of the validation letter, proof of State Registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), proof of current membership of the ADA and 2 references and a completed INDI membership form.
  • Only ADA members who have completed their training in the USA are eligible for the reciprocity agreement. INDI has a reciprocal agreement with the American Dietetic Association which only applies to graduates of the BSc. Human Nutrition and Dietetics course from the Dublin Institute of Technology and Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. ADA members see section below for more information.
  • Practicing membership fee includes professional indemnity cover. However the policy does not extend to cover INDI members working in the USA or Canada.
