Nourish Ireland Week Launches

INDI LAUNCHES NOURISH IRELAND WEEK

The Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute (INDI) is delighted to launch its inaugural Nourish Ireland Week. The campaign, which will run from the 9-14th June 2014, is aimed at providing the general public with free, un-biased, evidence based information on nutrition.

The INDI is the professional body for Dietitians in Ireland and its Interim CEO, Richelle Flanagan, has been instrumental in developing the campaign.  At the launch – which took place on Wednesday 21st May - professional rugby player Andrew Trimble was on hand to lend his support and Richelle Flanagan outlined plans for Nourish Ireland Week.

“We want to improve the Nation’s health through food and nutrition which is why we are offering free nutrition talks for the public on a range of topics that cover nutritional issues for children such as Weaning, Fussy Eaters, Allergies & Intolerances, and Eating Disorders and for adults Healthy Ageing, Diet and its role in the prevention and reoccurrence of cancer, managing Type 2 Diabetes through good nutrition and improving performance for Sports enthusiasts through diet and nutrition.

“From our work in the community, hospitals, and private clinics our Dietitians come across many patients who have either just been diagnosed with a nutrition related condition or have a family member whom they are concerned about. For a percentage of patients they are confused about nutrition - having often been given inaccurate information by unqualified sources – or they simply don’t know who they can rely on to provide accurate information. As the professional body for Dietitians in Ireland our members are highly qualified to offer evidence based information and robust nutritional support. As an organisation we are totally impartial and let the science do the talking,” Ms Flanagan explained.

“As a professional sports player nutrition plays a huge part in my training and fitness regime. Understanding what my nutritional needs are is critical to my performance but everyone’s needs are different as they go through life. I’m supporting the INDI’s Nourish Ireland Week because I know how important it is to take care of your body from a physical and psychological perspective,” commented Andrew Trimble.

The Nourish Ireland Week public events take place in Dublin’s Clyde Court Hotel, Ballsbridge on Monday 9th June. The Cork venue is the Silver Springs Morans Hotel in Cork city on Thursday 12th June.  The range of specialist talks, which are free to the public, will be delivered in two streams namely Peadiatrics and Adult and are detailed as follows. Please note; tickets must be booked via EventBright (www.eventbright.com) and attendees must bring their printed ticket to their chosen venue.
