As announced last week our very own Aoife Hearne has joined the 2014 Operation Transformation team of experts.
As the news reached INDI headquarters, President Richelle Flanagan, commented, “Many congratulations to Aoife Hearne for being selected as Dietitian for the forthcoming series of Operation Transformation. It is an incredible achievement and we know Aoife will be a terrific representative of the INDI and impart her dietary and nutritional advice in a balanced, professional and inspiring way. It is also an important milestone for the INDI and demonstrates an ever growing understanding of the role of the Dietitian and what it can offer.”
As part of the launch event RTÉ Radio 1 broadcaster John Murray and his team put the 20 finalists through their paces asking them to share their personal stories; outline why they think they have what it takes to become a leader for Operation Transformation; and how their weight has affected their confidence, lifestyle and wardrobe to date.
Operation Transformation presenter Kathryn Thomas was on hand along with the four OT experts to encourage and motivate the assembled group. The panel is made up of Aoife Hearne - a registered Dietitian and a member of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute and Dr. Ciara Kelly, GP and expert in family health join familiar faces Karl Henry, fitness expert and Dr. Eddie Murphy, a Principle Clinical Psychologist with the HSE.
The chosen five brave, new leaders need to be willing to radically change their eating patterns, exercise habits, and be prepared to inspire RTÉ listeners and viewers to follow them on their journey over 8 weeks in January and February 2014.
From Monday November 25th to Friday November 29th, Kathryn Thomas will travel to the homes of the five selected leaders to unveil their participation in the series live on John’s radio show on Radio 1 at 9am. An expert will be in studio each day with John Murray to discuss why each leader has been chosen.
Last year an average of 544,000 viewers* tuned in for each of the sixteen episodes which represented a 33% share of the available audience. The third Operation Transformation 5K Fun Run was a resounding success last year with over 5,000 people turning up to walk, jog and run with the five leaders in Dublin and 2,000 participants in Cork. A series of nationwide walks and two 5k runs in Dublin and Cork are also being organised in association with Athletics Ireland, the Irish Sports Council, Dublin City Council and the Phoenix Park to coincide with the seventh series.
As Operation Transformation gets underway, The John Murray Show will follow the leaders’ journeys all the way to the grand finale in February. The four OT experts –Karl, Eddie, Aoife and Ciara will be dropping in to studio throughout January and February to provide the best tips and advice on calorie counting, healthy recipes, exercise and lots of other transformation topics.
The seventh series of Operation Transformation will be sponsored by safefood.
Fiona Gilligan, Director of Communications with safefood said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring Operation Transformation again. With 2 in 3 adults and 1 in 4 children on the island of Ireland currently overweight, the show creates lively debate and valuable discussion about this serious issue while also offering practical solutions and advice for viewers. The achievements of the show’s leaders and communities across the island over the last number of years has been inspirational and we hope that this trend continues.”
