Ingredients

675g cooking apples or stalks of rhubarb or pears
Approximately 4 tablespoons Water
A little sugar
75g wholemeal flour
35 g margarine
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Handful porridge oats
Handful chopped nuts, for example, almonds

Fruit crumble Directions

  1. 1. Pre-heat the oven to 190oC or 375oF or gas mark 5
    2. Peel and slice the cooking apples or the rhubarb. Add a sprinkle of sugar to taste
    3. Cook in microwave or on hob. If using microwave, add 3 – 4 tablespoons of water, cover and
    cook for 4 – 5 minutes on high power. You will need more water than this to cook in a pot
    on the hob. Gently bring to the boil and simmer unitl the appes have softened.
    4. Sieve the flour, mix the flour, sugar, and margarine in a bowl and rub in with your fingertips
    until it looks like breadcrumbs
    5. Add cinnamon, porridge oats, and chopped nuts if you wish (all optional)
    6. Sprinking this mixture over the cooked apples / rhubarb / pears and bake in the oven for
    20minutes or until just golden brown
